A beautiful example of how our designs can be adapted to suit different blocks. This home was based off our Iluka 46 design but modified to fit a narrow block. This home has been fitted out with beautiful finishes that accentuate this modern design.
You are a seasoned renovator, and this isn’t your first new home build, where did you get your inspiration for this project?
The first place I look for inspiration is from the other home facades in the street and the immediate vicinity… I usually take a walk around the neighbourhood looking for the best façade example, because I want our new house to ‘belong’ and be as good example of the general style as possible. Our current build has an amazing, sweeping view to Manly and bushland over the rear boundary so that has also informed the style.
How did you land on Icon Homes to bring it to life?
On our last build I wanted a more contemporary home with curved walls and a very modern façade with textured elements… a friend showed me the Icon Iluka 46 design which I loved and we worked with the Icon draftsperson to adjust the width firstly to suit our block, we then repurposed some of the rooms and changed up the floorplan to suit us.
What was the design process like? What did you like about it? Did anything surprise you about this process?
I have to say is that building a new home from scratch is always challenging because there’s just so much stuff to think about! Icon are very clear about communicating their set process, approach and scheduling of works. For example, our specifications consultant, Melanie recently gave me a little advance warning ‘nudge’ asking if I’d been looking for visual reference for tiles as our tile meeting was happening the following week. I think the thing I like most is coming up with an overall design concept (mood board) and then seeing the project come to life is really lovely. I was surprised that our Building Supervisor updated us so frequently of progress – sometimes twice a week!
What is the favourite part of your new home?
Definitely the façade! I feel like it’s really well resolved and reflective of the coastal location. The rear deck comes in a close second!
And you are at it again, building another project with the Icon Homes team, how is this project different?
It’s a much more traditional style home in an area known for ‘Hamptons’ but we’re giving our new build a Colonial edge… tiling the front porch and back deck in a patterned tile… dark timber floors… interesting window frame details… chair rails… a traditional fireplace… French doors to the deck.
We are in the business of building homes not just houses and our team can’t wait to help your family get into your dream home! Please get in touch on 1800 MY ICON if you would like to speak to one of our helpful consultants.
